Desert REALTORS® Raise $10,000 For Scholarships, Abused Children, Homeless
PALM DESERT (Calif.) - The California Desert Association of REALTORS® raised $10,000 for high school scholarships, abused children and homeless charities during the recent 2009 Scholarship Golf Tournament at Indian Wells Country Club.
John Young, president of the California Desert Association of REALTORS®, credited the "outstanding generosity" of the many local business sponsors for the fund-raising effort. He said proceeds would be split evenly between the scholarship fund, the Inland Empire/Desert Communities branch of Olive Crest and the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.
Last month, the California Desert Association of REALTORS® awarded $1,000 each to 17 seniors from nine public Coachella Valley high schools, proceeds from the 2008 Scholarship Golf Tournament and other fund-raising events during the year. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievement and desire to continue their college education.
Some 109 golfers played in the tournament and attended the dinner and awards presentation May 5.
"We are always pleased to award scholarships to a small group of our brightest students in the Coachella Valley," Young said. "Choosing just 17 is a difficult yet very rewarding task."
The 2009 Golf Tournament results:
The first team gross winners were Kent Koepsell, Joseph Moreno, David Galvin and Jim Snellenberger. The first place net winners were Carlos Pena, Jim Jensen, Michael Pena and Eddie Strzelczyk.
Closest to the pin winners were Kevin Pruitt and Kana Tamblyn. Straightest Drive winners were Mitch Mileusnic and Barbara Adams. Brady Sigurdson was the winner of the putting contest.
The California Desert Association of REALTORS®, The Voice for Real Estate® for the Coachella Valley, represents more than 4,000 real estate professionals from Palm Springs to Coachella.
