Desert REALTORS® Donate $2,500 To
Habitat For Humanity For Katrina Victims
PALM DESERT (Calif.) - The California Desert Association of REALTORS® and the Palm Springs Regional Association of REALTORS® will donate $2,500 to help Habitat For Humanity rebuild homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina that devastated the New Orleans area in 2005.
The proceeds for the "Habitat for Humanity Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund" came from a jointly sponsored mixer April 19, 2007 that was attended by some 300 REALTORS® from throughout the Coachella Valley.
"This really shows the spirit of cooperation between the two REALTOR® organizations to come together for the good of the American homeowner," said Emily DiSimone, president of the California Desert Association of REALTORS®.
DiSimone said the donation "was a continuation of effort to help those displaced by Katrina." Last year, California Desert Association of REALTORS® helped paint a house in the New Orleans area damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
The networking mixer, held at Mission Hills Country Club, was also celebrating April as National Fair Housing Month. Johnnie B. Jones of The Fair Housing Council of Riverside County attended the mixer as the guest of both realty boards.
"This is a time for us as professional REALTORS® to draw attention to the ideal that of equal opportunity for everyone to achieve the American dream and to live anywhere he or she chooses," said Scott Gerrie, who represents the California Desert Association of REALTORS® at the Fair Housing Council.
The California Desert Association of REALTORS®, The Voice for Real Estate® for the Coachella Valley, represents more than 4,000 estate professionals from Palm Springs to Coachella.
