REALTORS'® Valentine's Cake Auction Raises $4,300 for Scholarships

PALM DESERT (Calif.) - The California Desert Association of REALTORS® raised $4,300 for high school student scholarships with its Valentine's Day Bake auction.

Auctioneer Neil Hilgenberg conducted the sale that featured more than 20 cakes judged in two categories, professional or homemade.

The professional winners:

  • Most beautiful: Kathleen Buys, Old Republic Title
  • Most creative: Karen Schlonsky, REALTOR®
  • Most humorous: Cheryl Blatt, Fidelity National Home Warranty

The homemade winners:

  • Most beautiful: Leslie Arnold, Coldwell Banker Palm Desert
  • Most creative: David Carter, Coldwell Banker Palm Springs
  • Most humorous: Peggy Baumgardner, United Title Company

Kathleen Buys, a member of the CDAR Scholarship Committee and chair of the Community Service committee, said proceeds from the cake auction will benefit the scholarships for local high school seniors.

The California Desert Association REALTORS® contributed $1,000 each to 16 high school seniors in 2006. Scholarships for 2007 high school students will be awarded in April. CDAR holds other events to raise scholarship funds.

"What a great success,'' Buys said of the recent event. "After missing the auction for a number of years we brought it back and with the great support of our offices and affiliates were able to raise $4,300 - which is not bad for 90 minutes of work. This is all for such a good cause - scholarship is my passion."

The California Desert Association of REALTORS®, The Voice for Real Estate® for the Coachella Valley, represents more than 4,000 estate professionals from Palm Springs to Coachella.
